How to pay motorway tolls in the Adria region?

In Italy, there are no vignettes, as motorways are part of a closed toll system. Drivers receive a ticket upon entry and pay the toll at the exit, based on the route taken. Automatic payment is also possible through electronic devices such as Telepass.

Slovenia requires an electronic vignette for all motor vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes travelling on motorways and expressways. Weekly, monthly, half-yearly, and annual vignettes are available, with prices varying according to vehicle height.

In Croatia, there is no vignette system. Motorways have toll booths where charges depend on the distance travelled and vehicle category, the same as in Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Montenegro also does not use vignettes, with the exception of certain paid tunnels and bridges. Most motorways are toll-free. Serbia operates a traditional toll booth system, with charges determined by the route.

In North Macedonia, tolls are paid via tickets at toll stations, without a vignette system. Bulgaria requires an electronic vignette for most public roads, except those within cities, and they are mandatory for vehicles up to 3.5 tonnes, with heavy fines for non-compliance.

Greece does not have a vignette system; tolls are collected at booths, with additional charges for certain bridges, tunnels, and bypass roads.
